Beginning with the great pioneer efforts of the nineteenth century, Mr. Orr relates the spiritual and social factors which met in the production of significant revivals from the Fifth General Awakening, down through the years until after the closing of China by the cruel hand of Communism. With sensitivity and warmth, combined with a penchant for accuracy, the author touches on all the great stirrings of the Spirit that touched this teeming area of the world. Outbreaks of blessings throughout China, quickening in Korea, and the Lord's evident hand in Japan and Taiwan all get proper attention. At a point in history, when much of eastern Asia is engulfed in the Red tide, it is particularly inspiring to be reminded of the power which God has been able to generate in the name of His Son.

EVANGELICAL AWAKENINGS IN EASTERN ASIA is the first of five volumes by Mr. Orr which comprise a "New Awakening Series" soon to be released. Others in the series include. Evangelical Awakenings in Southern Asia, Evangelical Awakenings in Africa, Evangelical Awakenings in Greater Oceania, and Evangelical Awakenings in Latin America. Together they will make up a very remarkable source of valuable information concerning the upheavals of the Spirit throughout much of the world.

Evangelical Awakenings in Southern Asia - J. Edwin Orr

Cover of the book, "Evangelical Awakenings in Southern Asia" by J. Edwin Orr

Published in 1975 by Bethany Fellowship - Second of the Five-Part "Evangelical Awakenings" series
Softcover, 240 pages. ISBN: 0-87123-17-1

From the back cover . . .

There is no doubt that the general spiritual awakening of the 1790's and 1800's was the prime factor in the extraordinary burst of missionary enthusiasm and social service which began in Britain, Europe and in North America. In the wake of this spiritual outburst a number of missionary organizations came into being. They sent their emissaries to many parts of the earth. Southern Asia was one of those areas which first felt the impact. In this book Dr. Orr traces the major movements of the Spirit which occurred through the years which followed the first thrust into that great sub-continent. With his customary sensitivity and warmth, combined with his vast knowledge of missionary history, the author touches on all the great stirrings of God which so profoundly affected India and the areas immediately around it. He culminates this volume with a discussion of the evangelization of Southern Asia.

EVANGELICAL AWAKENINGS IN SOUTHERN ASIA is the second of five volumes by Mr. Orr which comprise "A New Awakening Series" presently being released at monthly intervals. Others in the series include, Evangelical Awakenings in Eastern Asia, Evangelical Awakenings in Africa, Evangelical Awakenings in Greater Oceania, and Evangelical Awakenings in Latin America. Together they will make up a very remarkable Source of valuable information concerning the stirrings of the Spirit throughout much of the world.

Evangelical Awakenings in the South Seas - J. Edwin Orr

Cover of the book, "Evangelical Awakenings in the South Seas" by J. Edwin Orr

Published in 1976 by Bethany Fellowship - Fourth of Five-Part "Evangelical Awakenings" series
Softcover, 245 pages. ISBN: 0-87123-129-8

From the back cover . . .

The major marks of evangelical awakenings are always some repetition of the phenomena of the Acts of the Apostles, followed by the revitalizing of nominal Christians and by bringing outsiders into vital touch with the divine dynamic- the Spirit of God. These same marks were abundantly evident in the South Seas. The exciting story began in 1796 when the first band of thirty intrepid missionaries set sail for the South Pacific. In time the message spread from Tahiti, their first stopping place, to the Indies. . . and far beyond. The third general awakening broke out and the tidal wave of blessing rolled out to the islands. Then followed the fourth and fifth awakenings as the Holy Spirit moved over the waters and across the generations - until the present marvelous stirring in Indonesia! Orr's survey is a series of heart-warming adventures and unbelievable cruelties. Boiling water was poured upon believers. Two were "chopped as fine as mincemeat and burned to ashes." Here is a moving chronicle of God in action, often against fanatical opposition, revolutionizing raw heathen.

EVANGELICAL AWAKENINGS IN THE SOUTH SEAS is the fourth of five volumes comprising the "New Awakening Series" now being released. Others in the series include, Evangelical Awakenings in Southern Asia, Evangelical Awakenings in Eastern Asia, Evangelical Awakenings in Africa, and Evangelical Awakenings in Latin America. Together they make up a very remarkable source of valuable information concerning the stirrings of the Holy Spirit throughout much of the world.

Evangelical Awakenings in Africa - J. Edwin Orr

Cover of the book, "Evangelical Awakenings in Africa" by J. Edwin Orr

Published in 1975 by Bethany Fellowship - Third of the Five-Part "Evangelical Awakenings" series
Softcover, 245 pages. ISBN: 0-87123-128-X

From the back cover . . .

The Church in Europe, threatened as never before by the brazen atheism of Voltaire and the French Revolution, fell to its knees and pleaded for revival. In 1791 God replied from heaven with what became known as the Second General Awakening. The circle of its power widened until, a few years later, its impact was felt in South Africa. Beginning with these exciting early times Orr recounts the stories of the waves of blessing which periodically rolled across black Africa. The book culminates with a consideration of the modern changes on that vast continent and some practical conclusions about the obstacles and instruments God has used in spreading the Gospel in that part of his great vineyard.

EVANGELICAL AWAKENINGS IN AFRICA is the third of five volumes by Mr. Orr which comprise a "New Awakening Series" now being released. Others in the series include, Evangelical Awakenings In Southern Asia, Evangelical Awakenings In Eastern Asia, Evangelical Awakenings In Greater Oceania, and Evangelical Awakenings In Latin America. Together they make up a very remarkable source of valuable information concerning the stirrings of the Holy Spirit throughout much of the world.
